NYC/Week 1 JCS tour
Rehearsal for the show was in NYC and it was cool in many ways. First I got to be back in NYC for a full 2 weeks as I haven't spent that much time in the city since I moved to Las Vegas. I love NYC, it taught me so much about life and myself. I learned alot of hands on training just from observing the greats at work. I am grateful for people like Billy Porter, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra Mcdonald, Adrian Bailey, B.J. Crosby, Julia Murney, Simone, Toni Braxton, and countless many of entertainers and business people that have helped shaped me into the artist that I am today. So it was nice to reminisce on the life I had in New york as a Musical theatre performer in the time that I was there putting up the show.
Secondly it was great because I got to catch up with alot of friends that I haven't seen in years. And it happens often in NYC when you're walking down the street and you see somebody you never thought you'd see again, that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the circumstance...haha. But it happened and I got to see some great people who have been in my life, I only wish I had more time to see them all. Thirdly, It was one of the dreams to play the role that I am playing of Judas and I feel that I was born to this role in a way, it is one of the best written male characters of modern day. So it was cool putting it all together with the new cast. I was so excited because I heard about this production from a friend on facebook and did what i could to be seen. I told myself that if I get a chance to do this role I will do it...I would love to do it on film when they remake it for theaters, really I would:) But now that it is up and running I am having a great time developing and creating new things about the character. We put the show in Alto New Mexico, why? don't ask me. It is quite a beautiful place, but I felt self- concious because I thought I couldn't sing the role anymore. Mainly because we were so high up in the altitude we all had trouble breathing and that is the main key to singing. I was breathing in places I have never breathed before and it was troublng me as to what was going on. We opened in Colorado springs and then Greely Colorado and it was still high elevation. It wasn't til Palm Desert California that I begin to feel a little more confident as I could breathe and figured out that it was the elevation factor. The shows were still good, but there is a big difference now than in the beginning. The cast is a great group of fun people and it seems as though we are getting along. I can tell that we all love the show and are giving 100% each night and it feels good when you have that in a work environment. It is especially gratifying when we hear the cheers and standing ovations every night... I will try not to get spoiled:) Leave Comment: |
